With one-handed capabilities, the Leatherman FREE gives users the ability to save the day while on-the-go. Based in Portland, Leatherman’s product designers ride bikes too, like us. I’ve been using the Leatherman Free P2 and big things do come in small packages. It has all the assets of the T2—plus scissors, tweezers, and a heavy duty file. The FREE collection was designed with everyday problem solving in mind. It think it’s Leatherman’s most universal tool to date.
Of course, it comes with a pocket clip for easy access.
If you hadn’t already read about it, the Leatherman FREE collection features a first-of-its-kind magnetic architecture. Magnets are integrated into the design making it easier for users to open, handle, and close the tools and eliminating the need for nail nicks. Plus, the internal locking system reduces the wear and tear on the individual implements which makes the FREE tools even more durable than their predecessors.
Once you get the hang of it, the FREE does work with one hand. It isn’t going to replace your multi tool, but will do pretty much everything else. The FREE is now my daily carry. If you’re bikepacking or something, the pliers on the P2 are really nice. They’ll pulling glass / nails / staples whatever out of your tire. Bending bent things back. Grabbing stripped screws too.
I don’t think there is a a bike-specific multi-tool that offers pliers and a knife.
