Bicycle Portraits

Stan Engelbrecht & Nic Grobler’s 6000 kilometer journey around South Africa by bicycle aimed to be a photographic study of South African commuter culture (something that is nearly non-existent here), but it turned into a portrait of a nation through the bicycles that they own and ride every day, revealing all manner of social, historical, class and cultural nuances never imagined.

Stan and Nic are seeking funding on Kickstarter and we first noticed their work last year on our link blog.

BUILT is a series of short talks by DIY creators which launched at SXSW 2011, and Bike Hugger is bringing it back to SXSW 2012 for their biggest event of the year. This attendee favorite delivers ten 5-minute presentations by diverse speakers on rapid fire topics surrounding the idea of re-purposing: taking the ordinary and creating the extraordinary. Lily the Trail Shredding Dog

One of the best rides of the year for me this year was on a 29r, bombing a downhill. This Bro’s ride was even better, cause his dog named Lily shreds with him. HT Pink Bike.

What’s that in the mud pit at #SSCXWC? A lost helmet maybe? A Cross racer lost a contact?

Nope, a dude mud snorkeling. Also the devil-horns being thrown.
