As shown above, Bike Hugger received a sample. I can confirm, it’s of the highest quality like all Velo products. According to the press release

AtmosFoam is lightweight and provides incredible support for the rider’s sit bones, improving comfort and performance. Including nitrogen in the foaming process results in a lighter, more responsive foam compared to other compounds with finer pore structures. In fact, the microcells are more evenly distributed, providing consistent rebound and shock-absorbing capabilities. It also provides lower thermal conductivity, keeping contact with the saddle cooler in hotter weather conditions.

As can be seen, Brooks running shoes uses the same technology. Another key point, Velo sent me the Fern model. It was designed by Santa Barbara-based designer Molly Lofton. Asked about her approach following a ride on the saddle, Molly said, “I encountered several palms on that ride. The pinnate leaf of the palm tree is beautiful and intricate, which felt like the right design aesthetic for this saddle— paired with the textural graphic of the terrazzo pattern— not dissimilar to the look of composite recycled materials— the piece is reflective of nature and how we repurpose goods.”

Velo has made a modern saddle made with eco friendly materials. Equally important, those materials outperform existing, petroleum-based tech. That’s good stuff and from the leader maker of saddles in the world.

The saddle is available for preorder at velosaddles.us. It’ll ship expected to ship by end of October 2022 and costs $125 with Ti rails. Also new on the Velo saddle, is WaveOn. A NFC-chip based brand experience. Like, way more than a QR code.
