Surly Straggler

Surly Straggler steel classic gets a 2025 refresh.

Surly just dropped an update to the Straggler, its much-loved do-it-all gravel bike. It’s been over a decade since the Straggler first rolled out. The 2025 version is a solid evolution—not a radical reimagining—of what made it a favorite for riders who want one bike that can do just about everything.

The big news is updated geometry. Surly reduced the number of frame sizes from 11 to 8 (yes, fewer but better-fitting sizes). They improved standover clearance and minimized toe overlap—a nice touch for those of us with shorter inseams. The new frame sports a sloped top tube and a lower seat tube. That’s perfect for more dropper post travel. There’s more bottom bracket drop for stability, and a raised stack for a more upright, comfortable ride.

It’s not just about fit. The refreshed Straggler now runs thru-axles front and rear (12x100mm and 12x142mm). It also features flat-mount brakes and wider bars, giving it a more confident feel when you’re loaded up or pushing the pace.

This thing is still classic Surly: built with the brand’s signature 4130 ‘Natch steel tubeset, designed to be tough, repairable, and rideable for decades. The 44mm head tube opens up your fork options — steel, carbon, even a short-travel gravel suspension fork if you want to get rowdy. And yes, it’s finally got internal routing for a dropper post.

Surly calls it a bike for “multi-terrain wanderings,” but that’s underselling it. The Straggler is a gravel bike, light-duty tourer, and all-weather commuter rolled into one. If your rides sometimes turn into detours down that sketchy-looking dirt road, this bike is ready for it.

Pricing is on point for what you get:

  • Straggler GRX: $2,499
  • Straggler Cues: $1,999
  • Frameset: $899

They’re available now at Surly dealers and online at Surlybikes.com. While we don’t ride Surly’s still gravel bikes, we do have a Pugsley.
