Mathowie spotted the new 2012 Redline Conquest Carbon at Sea Otter a couple weeks ago.
and said to me, “it’s cool.” It is cool! And while admittedly too early for Cross, we’ll get one on test as soon as we can. I learned from Tim Rutledge that they’ve been working on a carbon frame for five years and continue to innovate with this model: internal cable routing, 1.5 tapered steerer, integrated disc mounts with carbon dropouts.
Last year’s Conquest was the most refined Cross bike I’ve ridden and raced on. I wrote:
The Team passes all these (nonscientific) tests and also rides right down the road without hands on the bar. That’s another test not done in a lab, but a good indicator of how a bike performs.
You could consider this bike Tim’s body of work. He’s been obsessed with building the best Cross bike he can since 1994. I expect to find more Tim-type, obsessive details on the Conquest carbon when we get it on test. Like a removable plate on the BB.
