Seattle Green Building Bike Tour—Sept 6, 10 AM

Central_lib.jpg Nate Miller’s got the low down on what’s green and going up (or has gone up) in the city center. I really enjoy rides where you get to learn a bit more about our city (like the train yard tour last year), this promises to be really fascinating. And what better way to tour the green architecture of the city than by bike?

In Nate’s words…

Been hearing a lot about this whole green-building-thing but not sure what that really means? Are you interested in learning about sustainability while at the same time enjoying a pleasant bike ride? The Cascadia Region Green Building Council is putting on a free bicycle tour of downtown Seattle on Saturday morning, September 6th. This two to three hour casual bike ride will make stops at about a dozen notable projects, including Seattle City Hall, the Central Library, and the Cascade neighborhood park.

Nathan Miller, a sustainable design professional, Cascadia volunteer, and avid bicyclist will lead the tour. Each stop will highlight different green-building techniques that have been utilized in local projects, including (but not limited to) natural ventilation, rainwater collection, green roofs, and “design-for-deconstruction.”

The tour will leave the park across from Westlake Center at 10 AM. The pace will be slow enough to keep the group together with frequent stops, so the ride is family friendly. However, this is Seattle, so there will be hills. There is no fee, but to keep the ride manageable we will be limiting the number of people that can attend (if there is enough demand we will repeat the ride in the future). Please RSVP to seattle@cascadiagbc.org to reserve your spot.
