Burke-Gilman Controversial Still

The Burke-Gilman Trail is a successful Rails to Trails in Seattle – cyclists use it as a North/South thoroughfare. The battles to build it were before my time in Seattle and today the controversy is at the Ballard extension. While lawsuits and counter lawsuits make the news, this video from Streetfilms indirectly shows why. Industrial areas, big box stores, cars, and railroad tracks do not mix.

From a West Seattle perspective, Ballard and Stone Way (another law-suited bike lane) controversies don’t address Marginal Way where cyclists are riding through a heavy construction zone. In the history of livable cities, that’s where Seattle’s battle lines are drawn.
