They aren’t just colored, they are also have reflective patterns for night time use.

I have a pair of those on my Frankenbike “cyclocross/commuter” rig.  The Nightwing pattern…sidewalls are prone to cracking in the sun, but the tires themselves (and the color/reflectivity) seem to last pretty long.

One of the other benefits of them is if you skid them hard enough, they’ll make colored smoke!  It’s probably just dust, but it looks like smoke.
