Check out the simplified, and cheaper, and lighter weight alternative. Flex Pro in Oregon City, Oregon has devised an alternative.  They look cool, though not as cool as programable pictures of obama and the like, but as a year-round commuter I think they are a must.  Bicycle wheel lights here!
