New Trek Road Shoes

New Trek road shoes were launched today. All three were designed with input from pros and feature METNET, an exclusive technology for comfort and performance. I’ll add before we get into the launch that in the recent past road shoes were not comfortable. It took weeks to break a new pair in and they were supposed to hurt.

As a matter of fact. not anymore.

Designers have learned that if you’re comfortable you go faster and longer. That applies to bike fit and all the touch points; including, your feet. I’m happy Trek and Bontrager are leading product design and introducing new tech.

So are my feet.

METNET allows the shoe to stretch and compress around the foot. The difference between the 3 pairs are the amount of METNET, insoles, and style.

RSL Knit

A Shoe for Your Style and Budget

RSL Knit is the most future forward of the trio. The upper features support straps, two BOA dials, and a carbon sole. The MSRP is $499. Here are the details.

I’m going to adapt the RSL Knit to a two bolt pattern and try it on gravel routes in the Methow Valley. I’m also interested in the bio-based EVA foam Trek is using for the insole.

RSL Road

RSL Road is a more traditional road shoe with contemporary style. It features a classic synthetic upper, METNET relief zones, two BOA Li2 dials, and a 100% OCLV Carbon plate. The MRSP is $449.

The Velocis

The Velocis incorporates METNET relief zones, an OCLV Carbon-composite plate, and dual BOA Li2 dials alongside the backing of the Trek brand. The MRSP is $249.

Another key point of this launch is the RSL Road and Velocis shoes include a new insole designed with Superfeet with enhance heel capture and shoe fits. They’re also made from 70% recycled material.
