LeBron James is a Cyclist

Having just shared a heartwarming video of a mountain bike daycare, I also want you to know Lebron James is a cyclist just like all of us.

Sure, he’s better known as a ball player and being King James, but what he said in his WSJ interview with Jason Gay is so wholesome and true.

Me and my friends, when we got on our bikes, we would just ride,” he recalled. “Sometimes we would even get lost, because we’d be gone for so long. But there was a sense of joy and comfort. There was nothing that really could stop us. We felt like we were on top of the world.

That’s pretty much exactly how I spent my youth and later in life recalled those days and write about the bike now.

It was a way of life. If you had a bike, it was a way to kind of let go and be free.

Also true and I hope there are marketers in a cube farm somewhere thinking about the next bike to market and consider what LeBron said to the Wall Street Journal.

Bikes are freedom. Always have been and will be. Sure there’s racing and training, but reaching new markets doesn’t have to be about performance, Strava, and personal bests.

Make them about having fun.

Big fun.

There’s a lot more in the article and more quotable quotes. LeBron rides a Cannondale, a hybrid one and with flat pedals. I’d like to see him on gravel or singletrack out in the trees and away from the news cycle. He rides to clear his head and stay in shape off the court.

LeBron is best known as the best b-ball player there is. But also, I think more importantly, he’s a cyclist and one that gets what we do.

He’ll ride to the Lakers games that’s for sure.
