The “new women” and her bicycle, a snarky illustration from 1800s
Kate Beaton make comics and started the new year with a look at women in cycling and how in the late 1800s, “scads of satirical cartoons” were published about them. Those cartoons were intended to show how shocking and inappropriate it was for women to ride bicycles, but now to Kate they, “look super stylish and badass.”
Katy’s version is like the Honey Badger, these women just don’t care. They’ll ride around on bikes, smoking cigarettes, and doing as they please.
