White Booties

In one of our long talks before Interbike, Sky Yaeger told me about the white bootie scene in San Francisco (I should’ve podcasted those talks). White booties being the ultimate roadie status symbol amongst the masters, 40+, disposable-income cyclist demographic.

I didn’t get to meet Sky during Interbike (Sky, where were you?), but did shoot this photo from the Oschner USA booth where they had a set of Assos white booties, under glass, and lit like jewelry.

Any of you wear white booties?

One of the local junior cycling teams requires their kids to wear the Defeet oversocks in white on any of their rides.

Ha. Are they like the white bootie crew? They probably have to bleach them after each ride.

he he. my black booties look dirty. if i went to church i would probably use them for some sunday peddling.

White makes you look more-tan.  Tan makes you seem faster (all that training in the sun).  So for $40, white booties is a cheap way to buy some serious speed!

Don’t forget about oiling the legs up. That’s fast, but the oil must never drip down the leg and soil the booties.

I sometimes ride the longbike in some white Chuck Taylors. Does that count?

Tim,

No because longtails are urban and hip, as our Chuck Taylors and they’re not “booties.” If you were to ride the longtail in a full kit with booties, that’d be making a statement. And it’s making me think, maybe we should make “green” hugga booties for the urbanites.
