The Wheel

Readers,

I present “the wheel.” Yes, with all of Mark’s recent posting about wheels (that’s my thing as well), check how someone just stuck pedals on a wheel and called it a Unicycle.

UWNI20.jpg While technically correct (it is one wheel), I’m wondering how you’d actually ride that without an axle or a seat. It’s available from Unicycle.com.

Hat tip Ken Kaplan.

haha this is crazy!

if the pedals are able to spin, i could see this thing working.

Then wouldn’t they spin out of the cranks; no wait, there are no cranks.

That would be an ultimate wheel. I can ride a regular unicycle just fine, but the progression is typically to learn to unicycle, learn to unicycle while holding the seat in front (not sitting on it), then learn to ride the ultimate wheel.  Shinguards and Pam are recommended on the insides of your legs when learning.

I don’t know dude, I think this is the [ultimate wheel](http://bikehugger.com/2008/08/olympic_light_wheel.htm) and then there’s the [Magic Wheel](http://bikehugger.com/2008/07/comic_relief_magic_wheel.htm).

I’m pretty sure I played with one of these things once, but I can’t remember where or when.  I do remember that the word “success” would not be used to describe my experience.

Take a look at this youtube video for more wacky bike stuff, including a version of the above wheel.

Seems to be some sort of compilation from 1930s-1950s, various countries I think.
