Here’s another entry in the mini velo category. This one made by Kuwahara was at the same shop that I purchased my Gios Feluca; as a matter of fact, I think I carried my Gios home to Seattle in the same box that originally contained the Kuwahara. This Kuwahara “Funny Bike” is a flatbar, single-chainring, multispeed bike with a 24” rear and 20” front. Notice how the fork is built with long blades and relatively short head tube.
Also note the welded construction with a seat cluster lug. Savvy readers would guess that the seat tube/top tube junction would probably be the only angle close to what standard lugs accept.

I always think the Kuwahara “Funny” is first built as a 24” wheeled bike and modified as seen.
Interesting how sometimes Japanese designers can come up with the coolest things…and other times it’s just absolute nonsense. This bike reminds me of that Yatta video.

No, that’s how the bike arrives from the factory. I’ve seen this fork configuartion on several other bikes marketed in Asia. The brake bridge below the fork crown is brazed in place before the paint is applied. Such a modification cannot be accomplished outside of a frame builder’s shop, and the height of the bridge prevents a 24” wheel from fitting the fork. It’s possible that the frame is sourced from a 24x24” blueprint, though, but that bike came out of the box like that.
The “Funny” moniker is an allusion to 1980s-mid90s time trial bikes that had small front wheels; those bikes in turn were nicknamed for their resemblence to a type of motorcar dragster (the “funny car” class features oversized rear wheels).
