Futon Transport

Loaded up a futon and rode it from one apartment to the other. You never know when a longtail cargo bike will get called into action or what’ll carry.

Did you need the stokemonkey we see there?

@ -p-

Not necessarily no, but because the Stokemonkey is on there, I use it all the time. Todd—the inventor—told me that us humans are pre-programmed for speed and power. For example, the 1st gen Stokemonkeys had a low/high—no one used the low and he removed that option for the 2nd gen.

Also, the system adds considerable weight so you use it to offset the weight. As I wrote in my [long-term Bettie post](http://bikehugger.com/2007/05/bettie_delivers.htm), I’ve learned to “feather the power” by adding constant minimal assist while conserving battery. Interestingly with [Bettie 2.5](http://bikehugger.com/2008/09/electric_monkeylove.htm), and the Nuvinci, I shift and apply power just like a motorcycle: accelerate on, off, shift, accelerate again through the power band to full speed. Listen closely here through the wind noise and you can hear [the power band](http://bikehugger.com/2008/09/wheeeeeeee_ludicrous_speed.htm).

I heard your girl make some vroom vroom noises but the motor was harder to hear :-)

Imagine this - Electric motor / CVT enclosed vehicle.  That could bring utility bikes to the masses?

Exactly. I’m running a powered CVT.
