Being Evel

I spent a better part of my youth on a Sears bike trying to jump and crash like Evel Knievel – him and the Bionic man were my heroes, later it was rock n roll.

Reading about his death brings back all kinds of memories of why I even ride a bike.

More from the NYTimes and NPR.

I rocked the kitchen and jumped cats with the Evil Kneivel wind up motorcycle set.  The big plastic motorcycle you put in the launch set you wind up with the crank on the side.  He was the first guy I imagined myself jumping the BMX bikes with poker cards clipped on my rear wheel.  R.I.P. Evil.
