An Average Commute

An Average Commute: Lemond Zurich Lemond Zurich and I kept a brisk commuter pace while discussing frame materials.

Wondered what all the construction was between the Stadia with Bianchi Flatbar and hoped the City would at least add a bike lane.

An Average Commute: Raleigh Cross Raleigh Cross bike appreciated the “nice bike” comment as I passed and Kona Dew just nodded as I rode by.

Human-powered was tucked into that fast bike and didn’t notice the iPhone camera.

Unicycle was firm in his “one wheel is enough” belief. An Average Commute: Unicycle

Occasionally we’ll ride with Seattleites on their commutes and talk about bikes, what they’re riding, and wearing. Last week most cyclists had their good bikes out. That’ll change when the rain starts and it’s the winter, fendered bikes.

Spotted lots of Sugio and Novara gear on this ride.

I see you got a picture of Joe in his streamliner.  I was on a ride with him just a couple of weeks ago here

Great shots.

Please tell us more about Joe—I’ve seen him for years and various incarnations of the streamliner. Once even attempting to draft him on Alaskan Way. The watermelon version is new?

It is a new paint job.  All of his bikes get constant changes.  It is FWD and has front suspension.  It is quite laid back.

I am not sure if this is one of his streamliners that is a monocoque like this one (the elan and here (opened) )

I should email him and get more details.  The watermelon one doesn’t come apart in the same way as the elan so I suspect it is a bike inside a shell vs a monocoque design where frame bits are directly affixed the the shell with the shell being integral to the bikes structure.

It is a pretty short wheelbase, he made some pretty tight turns on a Lake Washington Loop ride that used the 520 trail and extensive parts of the Lake Sammamish Trail.  He kept warning us he might fall over but never had an issue with stability.  He is quite the character, he has a ton of bike parts and bikes.
