A Mac in a Bike Basket

College in the late 70s early 80s, as shown in this Apple user manual, was riding around the Stanford Campus with a Mac in your bike basket. Hat Tip: Merlin Mann.

First thought: wow, I’d be worried about the thing bouncing out of my basket… oh, wait! The original Mac probably weighed so much that wouldn’t be an issue.

Second thought: but the constant vibrations would destroy the hard drive… oh, wait! The original Mac didn’t have a hard drive!

Great pic showing how much thing have changed, and yet how much has stayed the same. The Wald Giant Delivery basket is still available everywhere for dirt cheap, and could now carry enough processing power to run your own (small) sever cluster.


Exactly. I worked at kmart in the 80s and sold the portable Commodore SX-64. My wife owned an Osborne and both would barely fit in that basket. You could carry a case of iPhones in that.
