Bicycle Wheel Animation with Ken Bird bike

From the creator, Katy Beveridge:

This is a piece created to question whether it was possible to film animation in realtime. Part of my CSM 3rd year dissertation project I was looking at proto animation (really early basic animation) in contemporary design. I’ve taken a lot of influence from other contemporary designers who are using these techniques to explore the way we look at animation and how its made.

Well that’s cool and so are the Ken Bird track bikes used in the making of this movie, like this one.

BellyWhopper Aero

Italian inventor, Piero Moscogiuri, can do 50 mph with minimum exertion, permits easy breathing and the fullest use of all muscles Photo: Modern Mechanix

No doubt the UCI would ban this aero setup and Chris Boardman likely considered it before settling on his Superman position. In 1956, this was aero and a good reminder of how cyclists have always tried to go faster on two wheels. Manufactures have always made wild claims too.

As Cross season winds down and we get into the new year, it’s back to more Aero road bikes and bikes that travel.

Before Black Friday

Before Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it was the Sears Catalog and kids wishing for bikes like this one …

Boss, man. Boss

A Jones

Readers send us all kinda photos and this one caused a Jones. A caffeine jones. That reader knows I got one and damn that looks good.

This photo from another reader, @MarcusWSea is a Schooner Exact stem cap and spacers. That looks good too!

Jacques Anquetil Racing Cyclocross

Haven’t seen this before and wow! MGMatt, who uploaded the photo to Flickr, wrote about it

The back of the photo is stamped AGIP Robert Cohen. I think the year was 1965 or 1966. I purchased the photo at La Galcante in Paris.

Anquetil is one of the legends, and the first to win 5 Tours, but I didn’t know he raced Cross in the 60s.
