A Thousand Scooters and an Outré Restaurant

one bike in a line of a thousand scooters

It’s Saturday here in Taipei and this afternoon we’ll see what Josh Hon and his crew have been working on. It’s a new global bike brand and I’ll upload photos and tweet live from the event. Yesterday we visited Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall , and went out to a traditional, beer-drinking, business dinner at the Five-Dime Driftwood restaurant.

As I said on on Twitter Retweet

Five-Dime Driftwood, fever-dream aboriginal restaurant put some weird mojo on us.

and think what happened is this 40-foot tall Nicolas Cage got in my head first. A good ride on new bikes should reset the mojo, right as rain.

Taipei Bike Share

Since we were here last Taipei, has a bike share near Taipei 101.

The bikes are used to get around the business district, like the Boris Bikes in London.

I looked for and didn’t see the Robot by the River Path.

Drunk Driver Plows Into Group of 100 Cyclists

We just got pointed to a story on the AP wire that says that a drunk driver in Los Angeles plowed into a group of cyclists who were part of a regular night ride in downtown LA. The driver was apparently using her cell phone at the time as well. Nine cyclists were injured, six of them seriously.

From the LATimes

The site L.A. Now (in a later report) says that 11 cyclists were hurt and identifies the driver as 27-year old Christine Dahab, who is being held on $15,000 bail.

That website adds “There may have been mitigating factors, said reporters from KABC Channel 7 and KTLA Channel 5, who spoke with officers, victims and witnesses at the scene. Some of the cyclists may have been stopped in the road under a streetlight that was not operating, they said.”

Guess she was going to eventually drop that plushie, yell on the bullhorn, and crank the wrench.
See more photos from Georgetown, a Seattle neighborhood that bikes.

Taiwan Beer

It’s Friday morning here in Taiwan and I’m already sweating out the beers from last night. The bike business runs on beers and bros. Today a few tourist stops, dinner, and then tomorrow we learn about the new bike brand Josh Hon and his crew are launching. We’ve been to Taipei before for other events – Mark V has toured from one side to the other. Check the Taipei tag for those posts and stay tuned on Twitter and Flickr. Also, watch your crocs.
